My Longhorn Adventure

Went for a drive with my husband and mother a few weeks back in search of a Longhorn. I was not even sure if there were any in our area, although there are plenty of cattle in our area I was pretty sure we could find one or two! Much to my delight we found quite a few scattered throughout the valley floor. We even saw a pair locking horns kicking up dust, but we were not quick enough with the camera to catch the action...(mainly becuase there was also a Bald Eagle perched on a post in the next feild and I was snapping away hoping he would fly). So we missed the fighting action shot! But we managed to get this one and a few dozen others.

So I decided this one had a really pretty markings and awesome horns! My husband was quick to point out later during the painting process that this was indeed a cow and not a steer! Artistic liberties were taken in creating a steer out of this cow!

Really fun piece using dark rustoleum Kona wood stain, white wood stain, green wood stain and some acrylic in the grass. I used scrap wood from a family members business and left over frame material from another picture. So a nice recycled wood piece using what we might have just thrown away otherwise.

Yesterday we saw a herd of elk, if I can get close enough, that would be a fun project to paint. We shall see what my camera and I can find to paint in the next few weeks. Thanks for stopping by.
